Inova Fair Oaks Hospital's Operating Room department is hiring for a full-time night shift OR RN Specialist. This opening will be 12-hour shifts, 3 nights per week 0645pm to 715am. The position also has a holiday on-call component.
The Operating Room (OR) Specialist Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care. Ensures all patient care activities and interactions are patient/family centered by integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care, to include patient/family education. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Uses an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes while serving as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment and successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality, through relationships and access based knowledge.

Job Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships
- Formulates individualized plans of care based upon assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
- Supports and empowers patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions
- Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective, provides counsel and acts as a resource to resolve issues, and anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes
- Coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning
- Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition and promotes the development of clinical decision making of all team members
- Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation
- Assists staff with assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education
- Mentors staff in understanding and advocating for the importance of utilizing relationship based care initiatives in nursing practice
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and incorporates their expertise to achieve desired patient outcomes
- Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery and accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes
- Identifies own learning needs and develops professional goals, seeks opportunities to obtain education to enhance practice and collaborates in the development and implementation of an educational plan for identified needs
- Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
- Required to float between four Operating Rooms and required to be on call 24/7
- May perform additional duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

Certification - Basic Life SupportLicensure - Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license Experience - 1 year of direct Operating Room experience as a Registered NurseEducation - Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
