What you need to know - The incumbent in this position must be available to report to the TTI Austin office. This position has the flexibility of a hybrid remote option with two days in office which can be discussed further during the interview process.
- The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Job Summary: This position is expected to support or contribute in project research and proposal development. The general focus of this position is transportation data, technology, and planning. Be responsible for utilizing, adapting, and modifying scientific methods, techniques and procedures in the independent conception, design and implementation of state DOT program work activities, research projects and applied technology transfer problems. Completes project on-time, within budget and with completed deliverables. Conducts research following safety practices and guidelines. Understands principles of quality and unbiased research. Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of funding derived from research program or specific projects.
Essential Duties: This position spans the areas of transportation planning, programming and project development products and processes. In addition, the position requires knowledge of state and federal transportation funding and finance policies and practices. Research work products apply to federal, state and metropolitan settings.
- Applied research duties for studies and technical work activities include data collection, analysis, coordination, and supervision. Plan, schedule, coordinate and report detailed research projects based for public interagency and other sponsor agreements. Evaluate and document data collection requirements and activities. Coordinate data gathering activities and gather data needed for research tasks. Assemble, organize, document, and archive datasets. Synthesize data and extract meaningful statistics and trends. Develop and/or run applications to conduct the research. Analyze and develop potential new techniques, policies, procedures, and recommendations. Conduct the necessary literature review and background information search to support techniques and methodologies used, as well as documenting past research for reporting purposes. 30%
- Report preparation: Compile, document, and present results in formats required for inclusion in reports, technical memoranda, and presentations. Prepare technical documentation, including literature reviews, data collection, analysis, and summaries. Prepare project reports and other deliverables as required. Prepare materials for presentation of research results and other deliverables at technical meetings or other venues and to sponsors. 20%
- Actively seek and obtain externally funded research projects performing work on basic and applied technology problems and participate in research proposals. 10%
- Research presentations: Prepare and give presentations to existing and potential sponsors, academic settings, or conference settings. Prepare, schedule, conduct, and document research meetings. 10%
- Assist national, state and local decisionmakers in formulating transportation public policy through research, innovation, and on-call support contracts. Conduct analysis of on-going transportation policies and impacts of these policies within various levels of state, national, and local government. 10%
- Interact with sponsors and potential clients and support engagement functions for technical work such as committees, association meetings, and other similar activities. 10%

Required Education and Experience: - Master's Degree in related field. Urban / Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, economics, or related field
- Three (3) years of directly related work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Demonstrated experience with the data analysis and visualization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transportation planning and regulatory frameworks in the United States.
- Critical thinking skills, and the ability to find solutions to complicated problems.
- Personable, motivated, good team player
- Strong verbal, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint as it applies to project needs.
- Technical background using various statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R) data base software (e.g. SQL).
- Strong skills in data visualization
- Knowledge or statistical background
Preferred Qualifications: - Ph.D. in Engineering, Planning, or related field.
- Work experience in data modeling, database design, and GIS.
