Job Description
Description: The Electrical Engineer will support the UIS Internalization design project. The EE will will help build requirements, schematic, layout, test plans, appropriate models, initial testing and integration into a prototype/concept level system. The project will include researching motor drive solutions, creating/developing a model to be used for power consumption and drive capabilities, and recommending both a short- and long-term solution. The project will have design responsibility for Power (Boxer).
Electrical Engineer will:
Coordinate with controls engineering, hardware engineering, and software engineering teams in the design, development, implementation, testing, debugging of a motor drive and power system for a robotic system. This includes:
o Evaluation of motor driver solutions (module, fully integrated, custom design) with recommendation (Pugh matrix).
o Create / Maintain a power model for the robot system. This includes power for the motors, compute, sensor, safety systems on the robot and developing/maintaining basic use cases for the power numbers to be applied to.
o Create / Maintain a motor model in matlab to be used by the software team during emulation before a full system exists.
o Create a design document that outlines the theory of operation, capabilities, and interconnections of the PCBA.
o Simulate the thermal, power, SI, EMI portions of the PCBA as appropriate and time allows.
o Assist in creating a desktop version of a prototype, using off the shelf components to emulate the final design.
o Design (schematic, layout) of a PCB containing the drive electronics, and main power path for the board.
o Have documented design reviews of the schematic, layout with the team.
o Attend design reviews and provide documented feedback of other designs in the system.
o Create test plans for initial bring up, validation, system integration, and full system of the PCBA.
o Initial board bring up, testing, debug of the initial design.
o Assist with design, integration, setup, and debug of the sub system.
