Dissertation Editor, LLC is a Better Business Bureau-accredited private firm of academic consultants, project managers, editors, and statisticians. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States, we have been in operation since 2005. Our longevity in the dynamic, burgeoning field of online educational services is due in large measure to our strict adherence to the highest standards of both academic and professional integrity.

Our team of PhD editors and statisticians provides first-class dissertation services and specializes in doctoral-level editing, style formatting, statistical analysis, transcript coding, research, and consultation. While the majority of our clients are in the process of completing their doctoral dissertations, we help writers in various fields / stages of their careers with all stages of the writing and research process.

The Position

We are looking for a detail-oriented editorial assistant to work closely with our Senior Managing Editor in ensuring that our clients receive consistently exemplary work. You will be responsible for assisting with reviewing freelance editors’ work, including MS Word formatting tasks, academic style alignment, and editorial practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the director of quality control in reviewing work completed by our team of freelance editors to ensure full compliance with service orders and style requirements
  • Format and copy edit client documents using advanced MS Word formatting tools to align with academic style and university guidelines
  • Help answer editors’ questions about ongoing client projects and troubleshoot technical issues

Requirements

  • Demonstrable expertise in advanced MS Word features and formatting tools
  • Stellar editorial and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of APA 7th edition formatting, and/or another academic style guide
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees are preferred
  • Excellent time management and ability to balance detail-oriented, meticulous work with efficiency to meet firm deadlines
  • Familiarity with academic research processes and writing conventions
  • Capacity to contribute to the development of in-house style guides and company best practices
  • Technical acumen and ability to develop expertise in our CRM platform and other communication technologies

Optional but Desirable Skills (please note these specifically in your cover letter)

  • Computer science or other technical background
  • Prior experience managing a team of independent contractors
  • Graduate degree or experience in higher education or a research environment
  • Editorial / publishing industry experience
