EXAMPLES OF WORK/ RESPONSIBILITIES: •Render emergency medical care as required.
•Drive an ambulance to the required location, park ambulance in a location as to create a safe traffic environment.
•Determine the nature and extent of injury or illness and establish priorities for emergency care.
•Render emergency medical treatment as required.
•Search for medical identification emblem as a clue for providing emergency care.
•Stabilize and extricate patients for entrapment.
•Radio Dispatcher for additional resources as needed.
•Prepare patient for transportation in an ambulance.
•Be able to lift patients as associated with transports.
•Care for patient in route to hospital.
•Report to dispatcher or medical facilities the nature and extent of injuries or illness to ensure prompt medical care upon arrival.
•May request advice from MICU hospital physician or emergency department.
•Upon arrival at hospital provide nurse or doctor evaluation of the patient's condition, transfer to hospital stretcher.
•Prepare required report of trips made and enter trips into a chronological log.
•Maintain infection control procedures, as well as maintenance of equipment and follow OSHA procedures.
•Shall perform other assignments as assigned at the discretion of the employee's immediate supervisor on an as-needed basis.
REQUIREMENTS: •Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services, and valid CPR n certification at the health care provider level or equivalent.
•Possess a valid NJ driver's license.
•Possession of a High School Diploma.
•Knowledge of the geography of the Township of Toms River.
•Ability to read, write, speak and understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
•Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
•Knowledge of radio communications equipment operation and local transmission procedures.
•Ability to effectively listen, understand, retain and carry out oral and written instructions.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
•Ability to successfully pass a background investigation.
•Ability to act quickly, calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
•Ability to read and write legibly in English, and complete clerical duties including maintaining logs, preparing reports and keeping accurate records.
•Knowledge of and ability to coordinate medivac operations.
•Must pass medical and psychological examinations provided by the Township.
•Must pass a written and practical exam.
•Must pass a physical agility exam.
•Must pass an oral interview.
•Knowledge of principles of emergency medical or first aid treatment.
•Knowledge of the use and practice of pulmonary and cardiac resuscitation.
•Knowledge of the administration of oxygen, as well as knowledge of appropriate emergency treatment depending on patient's condition.
•Knowledge of priorities to be observed in the treatment of patients.
•Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
•Ability to use a computer for the purpose of retrieving information and entering data into agency's computer designated systems.
