Job Description
The Nassau County District Attorney's Office is seeking an attorney experienced in Immigration Law for its
Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA). The Nassau County District Attorney's Office of Immigrant Affairs addresses the victimization of immigrants who are often targeted for criminal schemes related to legal services, employment, and wages. OIA's mission includes helping Nassau County's immigrant population seek assistance from the criminal justice system; coordinating the investigation and prosecution of immigrant-related crimes; uncovering complex fraud schemes targeting the immigrant population; and supporting and encouraging victims of crimes to come forward. The staff of OIA engages in regular outreach directly to our immigrant communities and to all Nassau County residents.
The Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA) is responsible for handling, tracking, and issuing all U Visa certification requests for the NCDAO. The OIA also processes all T Visa requests.
In addition, the Office of Immigrant Affairs advises Assistant District Attorneys on the immigration consequences of specific plea offers and other issues that may arise in the cases we prosecute, related to immigration law.
Qualifications and Requirements All lateral candidates must:
- Have passed the NYS Bar Examination and be admitted to the practice of law in NYS, in good standing, before applying.
- Reside in New York State as of the effective date of employment with the NCDAO.
- Have at least three (3) years of experience in the practice of Immigration Law.
- Have exceptional people skills and demeanor.
- Possess strong public speaking and communication skills.
- Can engage with the public professionally and exercise sound judgment.
- Fluent language proficiency in Spanish preferred.
- Make a two-year commitment to employment at the NCDAO
Duties and Responsibilities - Assist the Director of the Office of Immigrant Affairs in handling U Visa and T Visa certification requests.
- Assist the Director of the Office of Immigrant Affairs by providing guidance and expertise on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions to Assistant District Attorneys across the Office.
- Initiate and oversee investigations of crimes targeting immigrants, including financial crimes, wage theft, coercion, and wage violations under the Labor Law.
- Participate in initial interviews of potential victims in coordination with the Detective Investigators assigned to OIA.
- Refer investigations to the Financial Crimes Bureau and/or the Labor Unit, after the initial investigation is completed by OIA and a determination of criminality is made by the investigative team.
- Lead or participate in various presentations, forums, and events, representing the NCDAO's Office of Immigrant Affairs. This will include direct outreach to community members in English or Spanish, Know Your Rights events, and presentations regarding the work of OIA at high schools, colleges, and universities.
- Perform other duties as required to support community engagement and outreach efforts of the NCDAO.

- Panel Interview with two supervisory Assistant District Attorneys from the Hiring Committee.
- Interview with the Chief Assistant District Attorney and the District Attorney, Anne T. Donnelly.
